New Kind Of Familiar succeeds on several levels. It can be put on in the background and especially with the understated horns it is very agreeable but when listened to more carefully, it does offer so much more. An album for all occasions.

Rick Thorn AMERICANA UK

The album’s title track easily landed on my 20 Favorite Singles list last year, earning CLEVER HOPES my choice as breakthrough Canadian duo/band too. Boasting amazing dual harmonies, stellar musicianship, and introspective songwriting, “Artefact” DESERVES the top honours.

Martin Noakes, Top 4 Canadian Albums 2022 GREAT DARK WONDER

As far as debut albums go, this one is as good as I’ve heard in a long time.

Paul McGee LONESOME HIGHWAY, (on Artefact)

With upbeat instrumentals and stunning harmonies, this uplifting track is definitely a must-listen.

Chelsea Brimstin INDIE 88 (on Made You Mad)

Sometimes such a build-up can be a big letdown, but in the case of CLEVER HOPES’ debut album ARTEFACT, it delivers on its promises.

Ljubinko Zivkovic SPILL MAGAZINE

Fine songcraft, engaging tunes, and smartly-written stories.

Andrew Frolish AMERICANA UK (on Artefact)

Gravelly and reserved vs. crystalline and lightning vocals make for a beautiful contrast amongst driving rootsy folk in CLEVER HOPES.
